Timeless Fashion, Crafted Sustainably in Australia

From the stages of Melbourne's grand theatres to a sunlit studio in the Dandenong Ranges, by Audrey & Grace began as a dream to balance motherhood with meaningful creation. My journey with needle and thread started long before my career in fashion and costume – learning to sew at my mother's side and discovering a love of needlework and craft from both of my grandmothers and my Aunty. These early lessons in craftsmanship and care would later shape my work as a costumier for The Australian Ballet and Cirque du Soleil, where my passion for exceptional detail found its professional expression. Working from my home studio in the hills, surrounded by nature's inspiration, what started as one-off made to measure formal pieces and wedding gowns, alterations and repairs, evolved into something more significant - a commitment to creating fashion that respects both people and planet.

The brand name emerged organically, inspired by my two cats – themselves named after timeless style icons Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly – who would occasionally inspect the wedding dresses during creation.

This natural evolution reflects the very essence of slow fashion – thoughtful, purposeful, and rooted in quality. Beginning with a small collection of organic children's wear, each design since has been carefully considered and crafted with intention, growing steadily into the label you see today.

What Matters

I've always believed people should be treated with respect—the kind of respect I'd want for myself. A workplace where you can make friends, share stories, find support. Where at the end of the day, you go home to the basic comforts everyone deserves: good food, a warm bed, family time, a roof over your head.

That's the kind of industry I want to be part of, which is why my Ethical Clothing Australia accreditation matters so much. It gives you confidence that I'm genuinely following ethical practices, and it supports an organisation doing vital work in our industry. Through my Ethical Clothing Australia accreditation and membership with Seamless Australia, I've found community, people who lift each other up, share knowledge, and work together toward better practices for everyone.

Fair working conditions aren't negotiable. No one should suffer to create someone else's clothing, not overseas, and not here in Australia where exploitation is often overlooked. This sits at the core of everything I do.

Sustainability is equally non-negotiable. If what we do depletes resources or creates damage, it's not the path I choose. I'm constantly searching for better ways, researching fabrics, testing processes, refining techniques and designing with greater care. I aim for perfection while acknowledging it can't stand in the way of progress. There's always more to learn, always room to improve, but this shouldn't hold us back from making a start at positive change.

My studio sits among towering gums in Melbourne's Dandenong Ranges, where sunlight has to peak over the treetops to reach the solar panels, offering some offset to the energy needed for creation. This is where ideas take shape, surrounded by nature and the reminder of what we're working to protect.

I'm working toward my 2030 goal of using 100% natural materials, and while I'm not there yet, I'm making intentional choices every day. If you're curious about the journey, the materials, the zero-waste design process, the partnerships, then visit my sustainability page for the full story.

I love storytelling through clothes, helping women create their own unique styles and explore who they truly are, not who fashion tells them to be. My size-inclusive range (currently 6-22) is made to order, and I'm happy to work with sizes I don't yet stock. Each garment is handcrafted here in Australia, made to integrate into your existing wardrobe and last for years.

Community & Commitment

As an Ethical Clothing Australia accredited brand, I maintain rigorous standards for fair working conditions and transparent supply chains throughout my production. I'm also part of the Seamless Stewardship Scheme, working alongside others toward a circular clothing industry by 2030 through sustainable design and innovative recycling practices here in Australia.

Beyond the studio, I contribute to environmental restoration through Carbon Positive Australia's tree planting programs that help regenerate Australian ecosystems. It's a small gesture of thanks for your support and part of my commitment to achieving complete circularity by 2030—a future where fashion works in harmony with nature.

These aren't just certifications on paper. They're connections to communities doing meaningful work, and they reflect my belief that fashion can be both beautiful and responsible. When you choose by Audrey & Grace, you're supporting that vision.
