Zero Waste
What is Zero Waste
Zero Waste is an ideal to work towards, with its goal being to reduce or eliminate what we send to land fill and what pollutes our environment. From fast fashion to plastic fabrics (eg Polyester, Nylon) the fashion industry creates unimaginable amounts of waste. We need to stop this.
At ‘by Audrey & Grace’, we are working towards reducing our waste and impact on the environment through different avenues. Zero Waste is one of these.
Zero Waste can take on many different forms in the fashion/clothing industry. There is both pre-consumer and post-consumer to consider, the manufacturing process, materials and a circular life.
The Zero Waste designs aim to cut a garment from a single piece of fabric, throwing away nothing in the process, but re-incorporating each piece into the garment. If there is anything left over , these pieces will be used in other garments. When we are using 100% natural fibres, we can create circularity for our garments. We do encourage furthering the life of all garments, but once you have finished with them, hand them on, sell them on second hand clothing platforms or donate them to charities if in good condition. Once they are no longer fit for wear, clothes made from natural fibres, eg cotton or linen, can then be returned to the earth to biodegrade.
In my first Range of Zero Waste Tops, I am using linen, repurposed fabric and dead stock fabric.
